Henri Bergson, recipient of the 1927 Nobel Prize for Literature, was born in Paris, France. His father was a Jewish musician and his mother was English. He was educated at the Ecole Normale Superieure. After graduation he worked as a teacher in several lycees and later as a professor at the College de France.

Bergson's first book, MATIERE ET MEEMOIRE (MATTER AND MEMORY), was published in 1896. He is well-known for his 1907 book, CREATIVE EVOLUTION.

Henri Bergson died in Paris, France in 1941.
